LAN extension The techniques of LAN extension between two part of LAN are used when topology exceeds the physical limits of the coppers or optical LAN. One important uses of the LAN extension is applied to the remote stations in the migration from host/dumb terminal using base band modems towards the applications with Windows terminal. The LAN extension will be done most of the time with a technology of bridging without need for IP setting or routing, or by using the technology transparent transport of the Ethernet through fiber optic. In this both cases, during the physical establishment the modem, these would reach automatically the best speed according to the quality and the lengths of the line. No setting will be necessary in the Network and the two part of LAN will be joined together in one LAN and the distant stations will be seen as they would be physically in the principal LAN. In order to increase the utile bandwidth in the link we would be able to activate the filtering of the local traffics that is not necessary to transmit in the other part of the LAN.
