Distribution of Internet in Hotel, University campus or Conference centre

The CXR offer of Internet distribution in the campuses and the hotels will be able to take several configurations according to the topology of the site and taking account of the existing telecommunication infrastructure.

Along the next pages we will present the following elements composing of this offer:

  • The standard pair of copper used by the analogue telephone in the building
  • Connections between buildings out of copper or fibre
  • The use of Wifi In-Door solution
  • The installation of the simplified access and safety
  • And the billing capability of the guest

The use of the telephone system in place is an economic solution because it makes it possible to diffuse immediately Internet in all rooms of a hotel or telephone point of a Convention Centre without wiring work.

We will connect VDSL switch, SWM-12VD, in drop and insert between the PABX and the outlet cabinet to the telephone sets. In each room the line will be connected to a VD2FT-S modem on which will be plug in the telephone set and the Ethernet network port of the user’s PC. This will not affect the use or the quality of the telephony.

In the case of several buildings, large campus of university, and due to the maximum distance of 1/1,2km of the VDSL technology it could be useful to interconnect the central to the SWM-12VD of the building by using a pair CopperLAN ,MSDSL/G.SHDSL modem on 2 wire up to 4,5km at 4,6Mbps, or with FOC media converters over fiber optics.

For open space with nomad users or PDA, like the restaurants, coffees, garden the right solution would be to use WIFI. WFC-11g is an access points Wifi 802.11B+ and G able to manage the connection of portable and PDA equipped with Wifi interface.

The distribution of Internet with payment is requiring some functionalities:

The setup of the access to the service per individual user giving a process of autentification ,authorization and the limitation of the duration.

The limitation of the bandwidth access according to profiles with different costs.

To avoid the setup of PC and the needs of technical support.

To make safe the accesses towards Internet between users and hotel organization .

To promote access to URLs or services in the hotel, the Convention centre or the airport…

All of these functions will be served by a serial of two equipment :

the concentrator of transmission and the Internet gateway.

This solution allow an evolving infrastructure, a rise of the user’s number and services.

The concentration of communication

The Concentrator of communication could use the copper support of the telephone line like:

  • VDSL with a SWM-12VD,
  • ADSL with a DS6324,

or dedicate links in Ethernet

  • in copper with the SWM-24TTX-TTX,
  • in fiber optic with the SWM-24FX,

or Wireless

  • with WiFi access point WFC-11G

all of this equipment concentrate the transmission, manage authorisation of access to the users, make safe the communication with the other stations by a switching at level 2 with VLAN and limit the bandwidth by port regarding to dedicate profile.

The gateway to Internet

The Internet gateway IGW-SWM-5TTX with 4 LAN ports could concentrates several Concentrator of communication (VDSL,ADSL, Ethernet, Fiber or WiFI) and manage the access thought ADSL modem of the ISP.

On a simple html screen at the Check-in of the hotel, the hotel-keeper with his IGW-SWM-5TTX gateway will give the authorization of Internet access to his guest with a prepaid duration in hours/day or bill on utilization and provide thought the IGW-Print printer a ticket with login and password.

The IGW-SWM-5TTX gateway allows a user Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP or PDA, which are set-up to be used in a corporate LAN, to access to Internet without modification of his station. This getaway will open a VLAN per user and will be seen by the station of the guest as is LAN gateway, it would :

  • accepts PC with fixed address or DHCP
  • simulate the Gateway address
  • redirect the DNS
  • redirect the smtp server address of the user’s email gateway
  • replace an expected Proxy server
  • makes it possible to the host user a VPN connection

Then the user connected to the modem in the room will access to a home page in order to give his login an password. This homepage could be used for advertising of the hotel/convention centre/airport services or the access to several sites or an extranet.

The Internet gateway IGW-SWM-5TTX could be connected over RS232 or Ethernet to a hotel billing software using PMS protocol or other recommended by CXR

The use of the transmission over fiber optic or ADSL2 will make it possible to immediately set up the diffusion of video and numerical television by using the same connection to the user.

CXR solutions are simple for the user and quickly effective and profitable for the hotel or centre. It could be dealt with by the person in charge for the site or out-sourced by an ASP.
