FOCIR Ethernet/Gigabit Ethernet manageable media converter card

These cards are pure media converter or media converter-switch Ethernet/Gigabit Ethernet, copper/fiber and fiber/fiber. The card is manageable from the AMS-MEDIA16 chassis and connects over the fiber, using In-Band management with the distant FOCI or SWMI switch.

This solution is particularly interesting in large networks to manage the optical Ethernet WAN independent of both end devices like for the Telco’s FTTC/FTTB or large campuses.

Management cards can configure copper port speed, duplex mode, MDI/MDIX, rate limitation per 1Mbps step, broadcast tempest filtering and can organize local/distant loop tests. The integrated 9 groups RMON probe monitors the traffic, length of the frames, error of line and copper side.

Card setup can be also be selected by DIP switches.

The AMS-MEDIA16 with FOCIR and copper switch is an attractive maintenance and network management platform as compared to an integrated switch with optical client interfaces. It provides a full network management support platform for the WAN Ethernet network and releases the network’s higher level switches from such tasks as link maintenance, installation and loop testing.

In a corporate or campus environment with several types of end-user stations, the media center AMS-MEDIA16 with FOCIR and distant FOCI or SWMI is a very efficient network manager. One can monitor the type of physical links, the rate per link, the protection, the filtering and the capability to open and close links by menu.
